KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) aims to investigate cases wherein an amount over Rs 100 Million is involved.
“The pecuniary limit shall not stop the bureau from proceeding against culprits involved is less than Rs 100 million,” said NAB’s chairman while spearheading a performance review meeting.
He reiterated his resolve to fight corruption with iron fists apart from creating awareness through campaigns. The chairman insisted officers to conduct quality investigations during conduct of proceeding in cases registered at NAB.
He further decided to investigate the cases through Combined Investigation Team (CIT) rather than a single officer and hammered on performing duties with professional acumen and honesty. While reviewing the progress made on important cases, he directed the officers to bring the cases to their logical ends as per the Law within the given timelines.
“Next week NAB plans to host SAARC Conference on anti-corruption – which is aimed to garner external support in terms of sharing of expertise and the best practices as well as seeking of cooperation as and when required,” he said. The chairman appreciated the performance of Karachi chapter and expressed his satisfaction over its overall working.
In another story, NAB summoned 42 former and serving officers of Sindh’s Local Government Department – in a corruption case – posted in various districts of Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions.
“The competent authority has taken cognisance of the offence(s) of corruption and corrupt practices inter alia by misusing their authority and making illegal appointments in [the] local government department,” the notice said.
The notice further stated that the offence is cognisable under section 9 (a) of the NAB Ordinance, 1999 and punishable with up to 14 years after conviction under section 10 of the Ordinance.
